What happens when we lose a tooth?

A degenerative process begins that can lead to the loss of all the teeth and all the problems that this entails:

  1. Aesthetic problems
  2. Psychological problems: anxiety, depression...
  3. Digestive problems
  4. Mobility of adjacent teeth
  5. Maxillary bone loss

What can I do?

Several solutions are currently available:

  • Dentures
  • Bridges
  • Dental implants

What is the best solution?

For most cases, dental implants are undoubtedly the best choice.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are artificial titanium roots that replace natural tooth roots. New teeth will be placed on the implants, which provide the best functional, aesthetic and long-lasting results currently available when replacing one or more teeth.

And me, can I wear them?

If you are missing one, several or all of your teeth or your removable dentures are causing you problems, you can have implants. In principle, almost everyone can have implants, but your dentist or maxillofacial surgeon will be able to confirm this after a short examination.

What are its advantages?

They are very similar in appearance and function to natural teeth and offer great comfort, security and confidence.

Maintain facial anatomy: the absence of other teeth often leads to a progressive loss of bone in the maxilla or mandible. The placement of implants helps to slow this loss and facilitates the maintenance of your facial anatomy.

Keep your teeth healthy: implants allow you to replace a tooth without grinding down the neighbouring teeth as with traditional crowns (caps) and bridges.

Will anyone notice that I have implants?

No. It is virtually impossible to distinguish a natural tooth from a tooth supported by an implant.

How long will the treatment last?

After a study by your specialist, the implants can be placed by means of surgery, which can be done in one or two hours. The rest of the treatment does not have a fixed duration but usually lasts from a few days to a few months. After the osseointegration process of the implant, the prosthetist will make, following the indications of the dentist or maxillofacial surgeon, a tooth that will be placed in the mouth. fixed to the implant.

Is the treatment painful?

No. This surgery is usually performed under local anaesthesia and requires one or two days post-operatively. Pain is controlled with common painkillers.

How careful should I be?

Once the treatment has been completed, you will need to take the same care in terms of hygiene as you would with your natural teeth. In any case, it will be your dentist or maxillofacial surgeon who will advise you on the care you should take.
